My thanks this month go to Dave Ellis who has kindly given us some aerial photos he took from a friend’s light aeroplane while flying over Purton. It’s not easy taking pictures from inside a plane so it’s a wonder that they came out and not at all surprising that bits of the aeroplane are in the shots as well!
Both of the photos are of the Pavenhill area. The first one has Pavenhill itself running approximately left to right across the picture, until it runs out of the village and down the steep hill to Braydon Crossroads. The winding road running off in the top left is Restrop Road and its continuation to Greenhill Crossroads just visible in the distance.
The second picture is looking north from a position over Dogridge. The Royal George car park is almost in the middle with Paven Close behind. The houses in the far distance are those clustered together at the bottom of the hill of Hoggs Lane where it meets Vasterne Hill.
