Outline of the Collection

Purton Museum is a voluntary museum run by the Purton Historical Society.

Purton Museum has a collection which represents 2,000 years of the village’s history from the Ringsbury Camp Iron Age Hillfort, through Roman and Saxon finds towards the present day.

The collection has a large number of agricultural tools on display from the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Also featured are:

  • domestic and kitchen tools
  • agricultural implements
  • cheesemaking equipment
  • displays from the 19th century Purton Stoke spa and spring water bottling 
  • 1880s maps of Purton and Lydiard Millicent parishes
  • copy of the 1744 Parish tithes map
  • memorabilia from WW1 and WW2
  • GWR and Swindon Works exhibits
  • The 19th century parish funeral bier
